Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about Josh Duggar, the oldest of the Duggar's brood of nineteen kids plus. He's the guy that had a job as an executive director with the Family Research Council, had helped lobby for 12 week abortion bans and was seen as a poster boy for "family values".
He's also a serial molester.
Now, the Duggar family and its allies are rather quickly trying to do spin control; they've been quick to say that what dear sweet Josh has done was just a mistake and that things are okay now. He sinned but let's just forgive and forget and put all that nasty stuff behind us. Because, you know, we wouldn't want to ruin the poor boy's life, now would we?
I have so many problems with this.
First off, his family has been known to lobby against gays and transgendered people; the family matriarch recorded a robocall that claimed if transgendered people were allowed to use a public restroom, it would put children in danger.
Yet she harbored a molester in her own home. She even forgave him. So much for "thinking of the children".
The family and its allies have claimed that this was just a sin. Jesus forgave Josh, so why can't we. There's only one massive problem with that: if this is just a sin, then it's no worse than taking a penny off the counter of a local restaurant. No harm, no foul, Jesus will forgive.
But that makes every sin equal. Stealing a penny is like rape, which is like murder and all can be washed clean. And yes, I have a massive problem with that. It smacks of this little Onion article which is supposed to be satire. I won't quote it, as it really deserves reading but I think it covers everything pretty well. But then there's the whole forgiveness thing. Why can't we just forgive and forget?
Because in this case, forgiveness is simply silencing the victims. And that needs to stop right now

The BotCon 2012 Update
(Bear with me, as I am completely exhausted. It's been a tiring few days. But it's also been loads of fun!)
I'm now currently in the great state of Texas, on vacation and ready to party at BotCon 2012. It's been quite an interesting few days, as you will see.
April 22, 2012 Sunday
Prime and I left a bit later than we would have liked; we had some last-minute packing (that I still unintentionally screwed up, in the end) and got a bit held up. But once we had that squared away, we loaded up Scamper and were on our way.
The drive itself was uneventful--we spent most of it listening to the Brewers game on 620 WTMJ-AM, the Brewers Radio Network flagship. They have a great signal, too. It wasn't until we were driving through the southern region of Illinois that the signal got bad enough to make us listen to something else, and by that time, we had already listened to the Crew lose to the Rockies (DAMMIT!) and heard Brewers Extra Innings in its entirety. Not fun, the losing part, but what are you going to do?
The rest of the trip again, was completely uneventful--although when we hit Saint Louis, the exit we took ran right next to Busch Stadium, home of the Cardinals, whom I do not like. At all. But the rest of the drive through Missouri was pretty decent and we got to our halfway point--Eureka--without incident. Prime and I checked into our hotel, hit a Walmart for the heck of it then came back to our room, ate and after buying tickets to the Texas Rangers game in Arlington, crashed. All in all, not a bad first day for a two-day road trip.
April 23, 2012 Monday
Prime had decided the night before that if we really wanted to hit the Rangers game, we'd have to leave a bit early. So we were packed, out the door and checked out of the hotel by 7:25. We got sidetracked and had to stop at another Walmart to grab a few things (mainly the dry goods foods, which somehow I had ALSO forgotten; Prime, however, had veered off to toys and returned with a couple of new electronic Bumblebee greeting cards, the Transformers Bot Shots series 2 Super-Bot, Bumblebee, and a Transformers Prime Arcee, then found a Bumblebee T-shirt I didn't already have, on clearance--he certainly can work a store), then get back on the road proper.
This time the drive was a bit more difficult--when we hit Oklahoma we were stuck on a US highway and not an interstate. So we'd cruise along at decent speed, have to drop down to 35 or 40 miles per hour when coming upon a town, and then ramp back up once past the town line. Just kind of annoying. Once we arrived in Texas, we could actually use an interstate highway, but that may not have been such a great thing.
People in Texas drive like idiots. I mean that. If they don't try and sideswipe you while merging into traffic, they will try and tailgate you. Or worse. I have never seen such Primus-awful behavior before. So if you ever come down to Texas, do not drive if you can help it. I do not kid.
After going through the traffic from hell, Prime and I arrived at our hotel and tried to check-in. Notice how I said "tried".
We were left standing at the front desk for about twenty minutes. There was no one there. There was absolutely no one in the lobby. Prime was getting irritated, I was getting irritated, it was not a pretty situation in the least. But finally someone came up and checked us in. Prime then asked where the hotel's business center was located, as we had to print off the tickets to the Rangers game.
This hotel doesn't have one. The blasted website wasn't truthful, it would seem.
Thankfully, the man running the desk had a printer and printed them off for us, so we grabbed them and dove back into the wonderful world of Texas road apathy.
We finally got to the ballpark at Arlington, but between the accepted horrible ballpark day-of-event traffic jam and their parking situation, we didn't get to our seats until the fourth inning. Once we grabbed some food and found our section, we headed to our seats. I had no problem sitting down, while Prime ran into a snag.
Someone was sitting in his chair. So Prime asked the guy to move. Here's where it gets ridiculous: the guy refused. He didn't want to get up and wanted to stay sitting in Prime's seat. Prime pointed out that he had the ticket to that seat and the guy still wouldn't move. But Prime was persistent and finally got to sit down.
I'm still in shock over this little incident: we've had people at Miller Park sit in other seats, but when the occupant returns/arrives, they will get up and go to their assigned seat. How difficult is this for someone to grasp? News flash: it isn't. So, yes, by now I have figured that Texas may have an abnormally high population of impolite jerks.
As for the game, it certainly was different--this was an American League game so we had a Designated Hitter for both teams. Also, they'll sing "Deep In the Heart of Texas" between the fifth and sixth inning and have an Ozarka Water "Dot race". Um, Arlington? Milwaukee does it waaaaaaaay better. The Sausages in the Miller Park Sausage Race can actually run and not shuffle. Just sayin'.
As for the game, the stupid Yankees won. And Mariano Rivera got another save, which I had no desire to see. (Trevor Hoffman is the all-time saves leader in my book!)
Once the game was over, Prime and I headed back to Scamper, hit a gas station to refuel and came back to the hotel where we crashed. All in all, a pretty decent day.
April 24, 2012 Tuesday
I slept until 11:30, I was that exhausted. But once I was up, I ate breakfast while Prime worked around online a bit. Prime got up with our friends Shawn (he likes fried chicken) and Stogie, and we headed out to shoot the slag with them for a while. We got to the Hyatt, met Ravyn, hung out for a while and then headed up to the room set aside for the Customization Class to help set it all up. After we got everything ready, we hung out with Shawn for a little longer--I got a bit tipsy on some Manischewitz Shawn brought--then we all broke it up for the night and went to our respective hotel rooms.
April 25, 2012 Wednesday
Here's where Prime and I split ways, so to speak: he's help with the Customization Class this year; I had a tour to take. While Prime helped people put together their toy--Shattered Glass Longarm, or, with a little bit of custom part addition, Classics Shockwave--I was wandering through Rangers Ballpark and seeing the immense Cowboys Stadium. I tried not to go too overboard on the souvenirs, but I ended up spending $33 on pins! Four came from the Ballpark at Arlington: a Texas Rangers logo pin, a 40th anniversary pin, a Nolan Ryan pin and a series pin for the Yankees/Rangers games. At Cowboys Stadium, I simply grabbed a Cowboys logo pin, which was clearance priced for $2. Talk about fun.
When I got back to the Hyatt, Prime was still helping out with the class. It seems that things were going a bit slower than everyone had thought, so I hung around with Prime and tried to be helpful. Once 7PM rolled around, Prime suggested I head down to pick up our pre-registration items, so I headed downstairs, hung out and got in line.
The wait was longer than the pick up. Usually, the pre-reg pick up starts pretty late but this time it was ahead of schedule and I was done pretty quickly. Prime came downstairs alongside the other class staffers to chat with me and we saw Karl Hartman. We chatted, I hugged Karl and had fun, as always.
Once I had our stuff, we all headed back to the classroom, helped clean up and set up for tomorrow, then went out for a quick bite of dinner. While we were out, DA called and said he was on his way. He met up with us, I hugged him, and we all sat around talking and goofing off until midnight. But all good things come to an end, so we headed back to our rooms and turned in for the night.
April 26, 2012 Thursday (Today)
Since there was nothing on my schedule, I had a chance to actually sleep in again, which I did. I got up around 11:30, got dressed and called Prime about an hour or so later. Seems he was on a food run for the class staff, so I asked if he could pick me up and drag my tail to the hotel. Today was the first day of sales at the Club Store and I didn't want anything to sell out before Prime had finished with today's project. You don't want to recommend getting between Stogie and his food (he's not himself when he's hungry, and Snickers doesn't satisfy like everyone thinks it does), but I wore him down on it, so I was taken to the Hyatt. We met up with DA and I spent a long time chatting with him, blowing time until I would have to stand in line again.
At around 4PM, I ran upstairs to the classroom, got a list from Prime and the necessary cash, then went downstairs to get in line for the store. I made pretty good time and was the fourth person in the cash line so I thought that things would go off without a hitch tonight.
Not so.
About thirty minutes before the doors opened, I got to take a glance at the sales sheet. It seems that the sales of the Souvenir sets were limited to one per person. That was a problem, as we needed a second one of the sets for a friend in the UK. So I called Prime, told him about it and he said he'd be down to help. At around 5:55 he showed up, we chatted, he filled out my sheet and I tried to hunt down another order form to no avail. It didn't really matter, though. We didn't get into the store until around 6:25. Once inside, Prime got an order form and filled it out while we waited to be helped.
Getting the toys didn't take too long and we were done in about ten minutes. Once that was finished, we headed back to the classroom, I helped clean and pick up any useful items and we broke it up for the night.
Tomorrow the convention actually starts and I can barely wait. I'll be getting autographs, buying toys, acting like a fool, hanging with my friends, you name it. It'll be great, as always. So until tomorrow's post, good morning, good afternoon, good evening and good night!

COMMUNICATIONS INTERRUPT: TOO MANY DOG TAGS
WingTacker (thank Primus for the Multiforce; twelve W names with which I can run) has obviously been slacking off here. Understandable, I suppose; still filling notebooks with that horrendously illegible scrawl of hers (won't just buy the cheapest ones, either), spending moronic amounts of time looking for GTS Pokémon trades (it IS moronic when it's happening well after midnight and the alarm clock's gonna sound around 0700), mooning over the Brewers and the latest player to jump off the train (Jerry Hairston just signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers). Y'know. The usual.
Black Friday passed uneventfully for both of us. The 'open' times for stores poking into Thanksgiving late-night meant that all the nigh-solipsistic assholes, the nutbars who do all their holiday shopping then, and the people who were just looking for one or two deals and preferred not to risk missing out on 'em...they were pretty much all gone by 0300 Friday. WingTacker hadda be in at 0645. Fairly quiet shift. Me--I am a charter member of the third group listed above. No dues to pay this year, though--the entirety of Transformers offerings, this year, consisted of old stock, taped together and stickered with a fluorescent yellow SPECIAL VALUE starburst label. Shipped like that from Hasbro--I've seen the case boxes. Generally gotta put a little more effort into the repackaging to get me to bite.
So I stayed home and bought a Ninja. Hasn't arrived yet...
Took WingTacker to see Pokémon the Movie WHITE: VICTINI AND ZEKROM on Sunday. Limited engagements, bleh. Four whole theaters in Wisconsin showing it (once a day for two days), all in the Milwaukee area.
Whatever. I can drive that in my sleep BUT DIDN'T BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE. Yomped around the area a little bit, afterward, hoping to find a Transformer that's been sighted in the state and is being snapped up about as quickly as its predecessor.
And BotCon just horked up the dates and location for the 2012 convention. Hopefully, Dallas in late April will be nothing like Dallas (Frisco, whatever, blah frickin' blah) in late September 2005. I'm missing DairyCon for the first time ever for this. Kinda sucks, but then, some of the behind-the-scenes drama is making me feel...somewhat less bad about it.

What a Contrast...
So evidently, getting my fix can and does include watching the postseason, no matter who's playing--just watched the Phillies/Giants NLCS game 6. Giants won. I don't think I've heard a quieter stadium. I mean, damn, you could hear a frigging pin drop. Not like the Rangers/Yankees game. When the Rangers won ALCS game 6, the entire stadium erupted into thunderous cheering. The Rangers were at home, so it's no mystery why the difference exists, but still...
Now the Phils fans are booing. Go home and cry, ya chumps. I'm sick of ya. I still ain't forgivin' yer asses for 2008, ya bastards.

And Today in "What the Flying Fuck?!"
You know DA, I have to admit I'm seriously glad you're not going to SDCC this year. This is why.
Fred Phelps is going to Comic-Con. Can I get a "What the fuck?" here?!
His reasoning? Oh, it's stellar, trust me:
Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent - so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.
You know something, Freddie boy? I haven't called out to your god in a very long time. The last time I did, I was in my twenties and your god did absolutely nothing to help me. He simply sat on his heavenly posterior and watched me squirm. So I quit calling to him, since it's obvious he won't fucking answer.
Instead, I have called out to HIM. HE has answered. HE has granted mercy. So tell me, Freddie boy: which god is truly real? The one from your holy tome or the one from the damned comic book? Because I will tell you, the one from the comic has been much more helpful than the one from your tome. Make of that as you will.

I Quit Humanity.
This is why.
Yep, BP don't want y'all to see what's going on down there. But, don't worry; it ain't so bad. (Better have a strong stomach if you click that link. It'll make you sick. Trust me)
Somebody get me the hell off this damned planet. I'm done. I have no faith in the freaking lifeforms that are running the place. I swear to Primus, nothing can fuck things up like a human.

Really, Shakesville? This is what gets your fucking knickers in a twist? You're serious about this?
Grip: Get one. Seriously. And the "concern trolls" are absolutely right. But you won't read any of their words on the blog page; you have to hit DISQUS to read everything. Gotta love censorship.

Oh, for Chrissake.
The man was making a hokey joke about his pre-teen daughters squeeing over a band of pop stars, coincidentally a band that creates an uncomfortable dichotomy between their squeaky clean promise ring image and the none-too-subtle sexualization of their act and persona (foam cannons, really?) If anything, it's you are insisting on essentializing them as pawns of sexual politics, rather than the human father and daughters they in fact are.
I read here occasionally for a "wow, I never thought of that" sense of awareness about race and gender in society, but really- not everything is a battlefront on which your oh so enlightened worldview is assaulted. Get off the high horse, and get a grip on your ego and sense of self-righteousness.
Lot of truth in that statement. So much so that Liss couldn't handle it.
That's it. I'm done. I'm turning in my feminist card. I refuse to get tied up with that sort of bullshit anymore. I've got better ways to waste my time.

Grip: Get one. Seriously. And the "concern trolls" are absolutely right. But you won't read any of their words on the blog page; you have to hit DISQUS to read everything. Gotta love censorship.

I Wish
The shopping season is in full swing. I'm already exhausted.
Supposedly, we didn't have too much trouble on Black Friday; I didn't work that day so I can't be certain. We were "steady" this weekend--not crazy busy but busy enough. Monday was slow and Tuesday was nightmarish. I didn't get the self checks worth a damn which sucked. But not everything sucked.
For the past few weeks, I haven't seen head cashier Cathy at all. So I asked around a bit. Here's what I heard: Head cashier Cathy is on leave. She hurt her ankle and took an LOA. But the real kicker? She may not come back. Her husband may get permanent disability and if he does, she won't come back to work.
This is the same woman who screwed me out of the self checks every chance she got, who rode my ass constantly, who didn't know what the fuck she was doing and who panicked over the slightest thing.
Yeah, I'm hoping like hell her hubby gets disability for the rest of his life. If Cathy never steps foot in that building again, I'd be ecstatic.

The "Burning" Question
A few days ago, I dug up my old high school yearbooks. Got a pretty big chuckle out of reading some of the shit I had written in them... until I got to my junior year.
Buried in the pages of my eleventh grade yearbook were several notes and a rough draft of a story. All of them were from my ex.
So here's the question: Do I keep the blasted things or should I just burn them? They're not taking up too much space; there's only like five of the damned things. And yes, they are an interesting look back on my high school years. But part of me just wants the blasted things gone. All those written words from him just sound so damned hollow.
So I'm forced to ask myself--should I just burn the damn things and get it over with? Or should I keep them as a reminder to myself? It's so damn hard to decide.
--Weasel, not as nostalgic now as she was a few days ago.

No Words. Seriously.
Found this little gem via Shakesville and I have to be honest, I can't do it justice. You really need to read this train wreck for yourself.
But this is what pisses me off the fucking most:
3) The fact that her parents talk about "having to do this now," as if a delusional nine-year-old cannot be told no;
(Emphasis mine)
Excuse me? But did you just call a dying girl delusional? A dying child? Delusional?! Where the fuck do you get off?! Trust me asshat, if this were your kid you'd give her whatever the flying fuck she would want. You sure as shit wouldn't call her dying wishes delusional. Yes, she wanted a fricking wedding, but so fucking what? Jesus Christ, I can't believe the amount of arrogance and idiocy I've just read.
Or to put it a better way:
Awesome, we're now concern trolling the dying wishes of a 9 year old.
Yeah, awesome job. Way to look like a total douche.

Like It Can't Get Any Damn Stupider....
I didn't think much of what I saw; one of the heads was wiping down our dry erase board at the podium just as I arrived. It wasn't until later that things got serious. It seems the note on the board read that all cashiers were required to smile. If we didn't we could get coached. Or worse.
We could get fired. For not smiling on the job.
It was either someone's idea of a joke or they were deadly serious about it. And I'm thinking it wasn't a joke.
The news spread like wildfire. No one was happy. Which is probably why the damn thing was erased.
This whole thing leads me to ask: Could management get fired for being stupid as fuck? Cause they seriously need it.
--Weasel, "And I was hoping to use my 'psycho' smile..."

Boot to the Head
Got saddled on lane 15, which is never a pleasant thing for me. But things took a turn for the worse when I saw the customer who was walking towards me. I knew her instantly; she was the customer who screwed us out of twenty dollars. Only instead of a shopping cart, she had a dog with her. Then, she asked The Question.
"Do you have some paper towels and a plastic bag I could use?"
Her dog had shit on the floor. And other customers knew about it. And complained. Loudly.
So management kicked her and her untrained dog out of the store.
I had a smile on my face for the entire day. I just hope to Primus the stupid twit gets the message and doesn't come back.
--Weasel, "That would be the bestest Cashmas gift ever!"

Read. Just Read.
There are no words to describe how this makes me feel. But it seriously pisses me off. Not only do these morons have the wrong damned house, not only do they shoot this woman's dog, but this takes the cake:
After the shooting, police wrote Viilo a $122 ticket for letting Bubba run loose.
I thought that only the Chinese government pulled that sort of bullshit. Looks like I was wrong.
--Weasel, thinking that the Milwaukee PD should be spayed/neutered for public health and safety.

Merry Fucking Blitz-mas, Assholes
Welcome to my nightmare.
Seriously, is this bullshit worth a goddamned $200 flat screen TV? I don't fucking think so. What the hell is wrong with you fucking morons?!
Keep it up, guys. My faith in humanity is dropping below zero now.
--Weasel, "Fuck it. I want off this miserable forsaken rock. NOW."

And This Week in Epic Fail....
The SCI FI Channel is ending Stargate Atlantis after five seasons, according to Gateworld.
First SG-1, now this. I don't even know if I have the heart to stick around and watch the up-coming spin-off Universe. I'm so disgusted with Sci Fi right now it's not funny. (I'm seriously considering waiting until Universe hits syndication to start watching. I'm also thinking I may want to get my Doctor Who fix from BBC America. Yes, I am that pissed right now.)
Way to go, Sci Fi. Seriously, way to fucking go.

Well, I Was in a Better Mood...
I was hoping to make a nice, pleasant post. You know, one that didn't involve me bitchng and whining.
Well, that ain't gonna happen. Or so it seems.
I saw one of my fellow cashiers today. His name's Robert and you could easily say that he's a ninth level nerd: he has a D&D group, writes science fiction/fantasy stories, and plans on watching all the Star Trek movies with his girlfriend..... once they're done with Babylon 5. Needless to say, we get along famously; we talk nerdspeak in the breakroom quite a bit.
Today, Robert told me, he's quitting. The reason? He got written up for excessive absences. He was out four times. Each time, it was due to personal illness. So, in other words, he got disciplined for being sick.
The co-manager who was with him said he had no clue what to tell Robert to type in the "Actions Associate can take in regards to this matter". What the fuck can you type? "I won't fucking get sick you pack of brain dead shit eating assholes"?
He's putting in applications to other places. He'll be giving notice soon.
Economists have been saying that the US is not losing jobs, we're just switching to a different economy, one that has more service oriented jobs.
In other words, we'll all be working at Wal-Mart, smiling happily, hoping to Christ we don't get sick so we can keep our miserable piece of shit jobs.
The United States is fucked.
--Weasel, "And my wonderful mood just went straight done the shitter."

My Heart Bleeds.... Oh Wait, It DOESN'T
Can someone explain to me why in the hell the Supreme Court is worried for Exxon? Yes, that Exxon, the one who fucked up royally in Alaska damn near twenty years ago and made $40 billion in 2006. It wouldn't be because the sorry bastards might actually have to own up and pay for the goddamned mistake they made in 1989, now would it?
.........
Hey Exxon? Do the right fucking thing for one and PAY THE GODDAMNED MONEY YOU FUCKING OWE!! You fucked up, now own up to that and take some fucking responsibility for once. Stop dragging your damned feet, grow up and take it like a fucking adult.
--Weasel, "It's been almost 20 years. These fuckers ought to owe Alaska a shitload of interest and fucking penalty fees."
